We who are Disciples of the WORD strive to live our daily lives growing in faith, love, and knowledge of the Word of God through constant struggle against mediocrity and through diligent meditation. We profess that indeed, “…the WORD of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.” ~ Hebrews 4:12
Seeking the purity of the Holy Spirit, we continually look to the example of Christ reflected in the words of St. Paul, “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” ~ Philippians 4:8. Taking with ultimate gravity the admonishment of St Paul, we strive especially for purity of speech: “No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear.” ~ Ephesians 4:29
We as brothers in Christ, walking together on the path of righteousness, encourage one another to become models of chastity, respecting women in their complete dignity, for “…everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”~ Matthew 5:28
As brothers struggling together for the ultimate goal of salvation in Christ, we hold as sacred our pact of trust with one another, and so practice honesty and humility in our daily lives: “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” ~ Colossians 3:12. We seek to humble ourselves as did our Lord Jesus Christ, when he died for our sins upon the cross.
Because of the joy our relationship with Jesus Christ has brought into our own lives, we daily proclaim the Gospel message to those around us. We declare, in communion with St. Paul, “…I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…” ~ Romans 1:16. Along with Pope John Paul II, we also profess that, “Evangelization is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize…” ~ EN 14. Above all, we recognize and proclaim what is written into the very depths of our hearts, the truth of the Gospel message: “The Kingdom of God is not a concept, a doctrine, or a program subject to free interpretation, but it is before all else a person with the face and name of Jesus of Nazareth.” ~ RM 18
We strive daily to live a life of chastity, purity, humility, and evangelism, through contemplation of the Word of God and with the intercession of the Great Evangelists, Saints Peter and Paul. Looking to them as the patron saints of our household, we as Disciples of the Word go out into this world, spreading love for the Word of God, “impregnating the culture with Gospel truth” ~RM 37, and proclaiming the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
May this covenant be a constant reminder in our lives of the commitment and promise we have made to live our lives faithfully, proclaiming the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ to “all nations.” ~Matthew 28:19
“Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” ~St. Jerome
