Tal’itha Cu’mi – Women’s Household
“The Father’s Call”
Our household is founded on the following call of The Father with openness to His love for us and child-like abandonment to His will. As a household, we open our hearts to the Word of God and strive to hear the Father’s call to raise us out of our sin and the dreariness induced by the seductive ways of the world. The tenderness and the power of Christ never fails to bring us back to a life in Him. We strive to respond to The Father’s call just as the little girl in Mark’s gospel did:
“Taking her by the hand he said to her, ‘Tal’itha cu’mi;’ which means ‘Little girl, I say to you, arise.’ And immediately the girl got up and walked” (Mk 5:41-42).
As a household we strive to live a sacramental life. We recognize that receiving Christ in the Eucharist and living in a state of grace through Reconciliation we become ever closer to the tender heart of Christ. Our focus on the Sacraments will allow us to more fully understand Christ’s sacrifice of his body on the Cross and his mercy and love for us in forgiving our sins.
As household sisters, we are aware that we are sojourners on the road toward our eternal, heavenly home. As a reminder of this, we look to the parable of the Ten Virgins:
“Then, the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet their bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish one, were taking their lamps and brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out and meet him!’ Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise ones replied, ‘No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked. Afterwards the virgins came and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us!’ But he said in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour” (Mt. 25: 1-13).
As household sisters, we will emulate the example of the virgins who came prepared to the wedding feast by enriching ourselves in the Sacraments and keeping each other accountable. Along with our commitments to lifting others up in our thoughts, words, and actions we will also be committed to authentic friendship which includes making sure the sisters in our own household and those we encounter daily are prepared for the Kingdom of Heaven before it is too late.
As a household, we are committed to showing the world by our lives that Christ can reach into the depth of sin, death, and despair and resurrect us in purity, new life, and exuberant joy.
